INNOVATIVE WORK REPORT

INTRODUCTION

According to OALD (Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary) ‘Innovative’ means featuring new words; advanced and original.

            Innovation in education encourages teachers and students to explore research and use all the tools to uncover something new. It involves a different way of looking at problems and solving them. The thinking process that goes into it will help students develop their creativity and their problem solving skills.

            Innovative work helps the teacher to teach something effectively. Here we can increase the interest of the pupils. And also we can avoid rote learning this interesting method. This type of innovative methods and creativity techniques has an important role in teaching learning process. It will also help the students to store the ideas in their memory for a long time. It is very effective and powerful tool in teaching learning process.

            As a part of the University of Kerala B. Ed curriculum 2019-2021, there was a school based practical work known as innovative work. This work should be applied to enhance student's learning.

PROCEDURE

            During the third semester school internship at Government H.S.S Palayamkunnu, I have to do an innovative work. I got plus one commerce students for teaching practice. In between the online classes I got a chance to present my innovative work in front of my students.

            We know that commerce is a new stream of students who did not know about this subject until to their high school level. Main part of the Accountancy syllabus is to conceive the basic concepts and process of recording, classifying and summarizing business transactions. Every businessman is anxious to know the operating results of the business during a particular period and the financial position on a particular date. This would be accomplished through the preparation of financial statements such as trading, and profit and loss account and balance sheet.

            In this context, the teacher has to make the students understand the process of preparation of financial statements. For this teacher wants to make a complete sense about the items appearing in the financial statements. As giving a basic awareness about the nature of the items that appear in trading, profit and loss account I prepared lighting board which illustrated with expenses and incomes. There are certain items of expenses and incomes. To identify the nature of the items you should touch a cable wire in the appropriate pin that provided for each item. When to each item the appropriate nature of the item should enlighten. The natures of items are direct income, direct expense, indirect expense, and indirect income. Find out the nature of each item is sometimes confusing to students. So the idea to create this lighting board is to make easiness the learning about the identification of items. For preparing this board there were few people helps me. When I am presenting this to students they are much interested to learn this work.

            The concept of creating this working model was to give a concrete knowledge about the subject matter. Learning with the textbook does not give a sustainable understanding. This innovative work helps to learn easily by students without the presents of the teacher.

            When I present this in my class and explain it working, my students were interested to do this. But in online class only we had to show it’s working through an online platform. I said to them when school opens you can do this in your classroom.

CONCLUSION

            Innovative teaching is necessary for the present and the future of education to help students to reach their full potential. The concrete learning over the abstract learning will happen through innovative works. Preparing innovative work makes to enhance the teacher’s potential also. Innovative teaching- learning aids will increase the thinking skill of teachers as well as students. Innovative works helps the teachers to simplify their teaching skills.

            My innovative work gave a new experience to teach in front of my students. I am very glad that my innovative work lead to a success in teaching learning process.
