COGNITIVE MAP REPORT

Cognitive maps can be defined as mental images and concepts that are built to visualize and assimilate information. They are also referred to as mental maps, mind maps, schemata, and frames of reference. They act as tools for strategists to move beyond the constraints of short-term memory and to process information spanning long periods of time. The mind creates spatial concepts in order to make sense of incoming information.

Advantages:

·         The process organizes complex information into manageable portions.

·         It simplifies knowledge, increases memory, and improves cognition where cognition is understood to be the mental act or process by which knowledge is acquired, including perception, intuition, and reasoning.

·         As a fundamental mental process, it acts as a coping mechanism under conditions of uncertainty.

PREPARATION

The topics selected for cognitive map preparation were from plus one and plus two Business Studies subject. From plus one Business Studies subject, ‘sources of business finance’ was the unit which I selected for first cognitive map preparation. The main subtopic in that unit was classification of sources of funds. The sources of fund further divided into three. The second sub topic was factors affecting choice of the sources of funds.

From plus two Business Studies subject, financial market was the unit which I choose for second cognitive map preparation. The unit was mainly divided into two sub topics. They were classification of financial market and functions of financial market.

I choose those units because it was complex to understand the contents on it. The relationship of subtopics and structure of the unit can be identified at a glance through using cognitive map. Through this, it can be avoid the complexity to know these units and its main areas.

I used ‘mi mind’ application to create the two cognitive maps. It can be download from playstore.
