REPORT OF TEACHING PRACTICE

Based on the pandemic situation fourth semester (phase-2) school internship could be split into two; peer teaching and face to face teaching. For peer teaching the lessons were split into two for offline teaching and online teaching. For face to face teaching I got plus one Commerce students from Govt: H.S.S Palayamkunnu.

Offline Peer Teaching

Offline peer teaching was conducted at HKM College of Education. Peer teaching was started on 25th January 2021 and it ends on 2nd February 2021. The lessons taught for offline peer teaching were:

·        Concept of e-business.

·        Delegation and its importance

·        Dimensions of business environment

·        Functions of stock exchange

·        External sources of recruitment

·        Public sector

·        Departmental stores and its advantages

·        Multiple shop and its advantages

·        Communication and its elements

3 models of teaching were used in offline peer teaching. Concept attainment model was used to teach concept of e-business. Positive and negative exemplars were used to reach the concept. Then inquiry training model was used to teach functions of stock exchange. Learners ask questions about stock exchange and they used yes or no questions for clarify their doubts. Then the 3rd model used was advance organizer model. This model used to teach the topic public sector.

Offline peer teaching was the first face to face teaching experience in fourth semester I got. It was a nice experience for me. It felt like a real classroom experience. Teachers and peers gave their comments about my class.

Online Peer Teaching

Online peer teaching started on 3rd February 2021. Google meet was used as online platform. There were 6 lessons taught in online peer teaching.

The topics are:

·        Accounting information and its users

·        Marketing mix and elements

·        Auxiliaries to trade

·        Fixed capital

·        Consumer protection Act and its rights

·        Pricing and factors affecting pricing

Normal lesson transcript and outcome based lesson transcript were used. Power point presentation and suitable videos were used for the effective teaching-learning process. Online peer teaching was a nice experience. But the offline experience was more effective than online peer teaching.

Face to Face Online Teaching

For face to face peer teaching I got plus one Commerce students from Govt: H.S.S Palayamkunnu. Business Studies was the subject I got from the school. Business Services was the unit that I got from the school teacher for online teaching. The lessons were:

·        Nature of services

·        Banking and its types

·        Functions of commercial banks

·        Insurance and functions of insurance

·        Concept of e-banking

·        Principles of insurance

First 7 lessons were above mentioned them. Concept of service and concept of e-banking were taught through concept attainment model. It was an effective way of teaching. While teaching principles of insurance I used an innovative work to gain the attention of pupil in the concept that I taught. Pupil were interested to check the

Book of principles of insurance.

Face to face online teaching

The topics I choose for online face to face teaching were given below.

·        Life insurance and its elements

·        Types of life insurance

·        Marine insurance and its elements

·        Transportation

Transportation was taught through using inquiry training model and fire insurance and its elements taught through using advance organizer model.

The pupils were responded actively throughout the classes. So it made each class more effective. Suitable pictures and learning contents were presented in power point presentation. Suitable videos were shown through online teaching and it gained the attentions of whole class.

Online peer teaching started on 9th February 2021 and ended on 24th February 2021. Then based on online face to face teaching I conducted an achievement test on 26th February 2021. Followed on the test next day I conducted a diagnostic test. All the topics were covered for achievement test. Diagnostic test was conducted from the area insurance. But most of the students were face difficult to answer the area principles of insurance. After provided a remedial class, I conducted a diagnostic test again covering the area of principles of insurance. In the second diagnostic test pupil were score more than 95%. Pupil were understood the unit very well.

First time as a teacher in online platform was equally challenging and provided a good experience. I improved a lot from the second phase of teaching practice.
